3 Tips on How to Always Keep Your Windows Clean

Being a décor designer in Victoria BC means I work in a lot of homes and so I got to see some neat ways in which families keep their windows clean. Even if you’re a bachelor and you don’t have to worry about toddlers touching your window panes to smear fingerprints all over them, these three major tips on how to easily make sure your home windows are always clean with little hassle should also work for you. (You can even use these tips to keep your car windows clean at all times.)

My first tip:

Tip #1 is rather simple, and kind of cliché. You might have seen a family on TV do this already. If you lived alone, you would put a calendar on the wall and plan one or two days every week that you put aside 15 minutes to clean the windows. Then you could reward yourself with a treat. Or, you could mentally discipline yourself and say “Okay, I’ll make a habit of cleaning my windows once a week.” If you had a family, each member could plot time for the task on a whiteboard. The goal will be to make it a habit so that it becomes easy, because it might feel like a chore at first. If you for whatever reason don’t ever want to clean your own windows, then tips 2 and 3 should be better for you.

My second tip:

Tip #2 will cost a little money, but the small cost will be worth it if you can appreciate a life with clean windows. And getting a professional window washing company to come clean your windows regularly may be cost a lot less than you think. Many of these companies also clean gutters and other parts of your home so you can get a lot more cleaned for a little extra cash. For window cleaning Victoria BC I pay very little compared to the time it would take me to clean all my own windows with that kind of professional quality, and I only pay a few hundred dollars a year to have them come out a few times in the stormy seasons. They also clean all the exterior sides of your windows which is work many people can’t do alone. If you want to avoid the cost of professional window cleaning, then tip 3 will be best for you.

My second tip:

Tip #3 is free and a great way to get lots of other chores done. Before money was invented there was an ancient barter system of trading favors for favors. Essentially, that’s what you can do to have your windows clean. It might be someone you meet at the store regularly, or the neighbor’s teenage son; if you can think of something you can do for them that doesn’t cost any money, something they could really use and be willing to clean your windows for in exchange, then you can make it happen. This is common occurrence in small towns but is even easier to pull off in populated cities because there are so many people and so many opportunities. A great example of this is my aunt in Vancouver who volunteers at the church handing out bread. In return, some young guys at the church clean her windows every autumn in exchange for her time. If you don’t know anyone already, that’s what online places like Facebook Marketplace are for. On there you can post in local groups offering business, like a request that says “I’ll knit you sweaters if you clean my windows.”

I hope that if you stumble across this post again you’ll be reading it with clean windows behind you. I use a mixture of all three of these tips to keep my windows sparkly clean all year round. Life with clean windows is so much better because you can see outside with clarity and it adds to the quality of your life. So enjoy!

Making the Best Out of Your Garbage for Creative Home Décor

Do you ever have those thoughts when you hesitate to throw something in the trash that says, “Hey, this might be useful in an art project!” I stopped throwing things away whenever I hear that voice and now I got some pretty nifty home-made art pieces that add to the style and comfort of my home.

Let’s think of all the things the average household throws out on a yearly bases and what we could make artistically if we saved a lot of those things. One little thing I’ve been saving is the ends of incense sticks after I burn them because, who knows, with a bit of glue, some canvas and some paint those little sticks could make for a cool miniature fence or hut to make a 3D effect on my painting.

As I write this I realized there are still so many things I could make art from that we throw out every day that I haven’t even realized yet. The potential, with creativity as the driving force, is unlimited. They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and it’s true especially if the guy has a creative eye out for making cool home décor pieces.

Even an old garbage can lid, if flattened out a bit, might make a nice canvas for a painting so to speak, and after painting a landscape on it you could hang it above the garage door for a rustic appeal. Or suppose that’s the last thing you’d do because you’re already coming up with some great ideas yourself.

Think of all the ways some garbage could become useful in your creative art projects. Having a little space in your home where you collect these things, so you can ponder and get creative with some arts and crafts whenever the inspiration comes, is how I love to spend some quiet afternoons. The thinks you can make in a few hours with some new idea is pretty amazing.

Have fun with it!
